The Berlinale, set to take place February 15th to 25th, has announced that My Favourite Cake (Original Title: Keyke Mahboobe Man) by Maryam Moghaddam and Behtash Sanaeeha, the third feature collaboration from the Iranian writer-directors, will celebrate its World Premiere next month at the 74th Berlinale.

In My Favourite Cake, Mahin (70) lives alone, until she decides to break her solitary routine and revitalize her love life. But as she opens up to romance, an unexpected encounter quickly evolves into an unforgettable evening.

My Favourite Cake was among the first six films selected for the first round of New Dawn after its launch in 2022.

My Favourite Cake will participate in the Official Competition, the festival’s centrepiece and most prestigious section, competing for festival’s top award, the Golden Bear. My Favourite Cake marks a return to Berlin’s competition line-up for Maryam Mogghadam and Behtash Sanaeeha after the success of Ballad of a White Cow, which was presented at the Berlinale in 2021. Ballad of a White Cow was among audience favorites at the 2021 Berlinale, finishing among the finalists for the festival’s inaugural Competition Audience Award, and emerging as the top votegetter of any non-German film that year.

My Favourite Cake stars newcomer Lily Farhadpour as Mahin and renowned Iranian actor Esmail Mehrabi as Faramarz. Writers/Directors, Maryam Moghaddam & Behtash Sanaeeha reacted to the news:

“We’re the happiest to hear that My Favourite Cake found a home at our favourite festival!”

My Favourite Cake is produced by Filmsazan Javan (Iran), Caracteres Productions (France), Hobab (Sweden) and Watchmen Productions (Germany) and supported by the Swedish Film Institute, Sveriges Television, New Dawn, ZDF/ARTE, Medienboard Berlin-Brandenburg, World Cinema Fund, CNC Aide aux cinemas du monde, Institut Français, Région Ile de France, Eurimages and the Berlinale Coproduction Market.
